Tour Across Texas: Coming to a chapter near you!
The Arc of Texas team hits the road every other summer before the Texas Legislative Session starts to visit our local chapters across the state. Itโs a chance to visit with staff, volunteers and participants of our local chapters, meet folks in local disability communities, learn about The Arc of Texasโ public policy pillars, and get advocacy tips to help influence state-level public policies affecting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
#TheArcTourAcrossTX of 2024 was a huge success! Our leadership and Public Policy & Advocacy Team sang Willie Nelsonโs โOn the Road Againโ on repeat as they got to meet so many members of the disability community, including incredible self-advocates, parents and family members of people with IDD, and staff of disability organizations. To our local chapters, thank you for having us!
These visits offer a chance to:
- Learn about The Arc of Texasโ public policy pillars.
- Get tips on how to advocate for public policies that support people with IDD.
- Connect with members of the disability community in your region.
When the 89th Texas Legislative Session begins in January 2025, we must use our collective power to educate and encourage legislators to make policies that help (not hurt) Texans with IDD. Weโve made huge progress together over the years, but thereโs still a lot to tackle to ensure friends and family with IDD have the resources needed to live the life they deserve and choose.

Public policy addresses a public issue through laws, regulations, and programs developed by governments. Advocacy is when you inform policymakers about issues you care about so they understand how their decisions impact peopleโs lives.
Want to learn more about how to advocate confidently and strategically? Check out our โLegislative Advocacy Toolkitโ intended to help you have conversations with legislators anytime! This toolkit is general โ not specific to an event or issue.
Elected officials have the power to impact the lives of Texans with disabilities positively or negatively. YOU have the power to help determine who gets elected.
