Share the Vision
Dear Friends,The Arc of Texas has always dared to look beyond the horizon and dream of a better world - a world where people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are accepted, included, and valued as contributing members of our society. Since our founding in 1950, The Arc of Texas has been instrumental in the creation of virtually every program, service, right, and benefit available to hundreds of thousands of Texans with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Arc makes changes-changes that improve the lives of people with disabilities. The Arc is viewed throughout the state as a leader in changing laws and policy, creating cutting-edge programs, and advancing social transformation. There are more than a half a million Texans with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Today, more than ever, these Texans are able to live fulfilling lives as contributing members of their communities. The Arc of Texas continually addresses the needs of individuals in new and innovative ways: Legislative Advocacy - working to improve supports and services that help people with disabilities live in communities of their choice and enjoy fulfilling lives. The Master Pooled Trust - helping more than 750 individuals with disabilities protect their benefits and improve their financial situations. The Texas Microboard Collaboration - helping individuals organize friends and family into nonprofit organizations to provide community support. School and Community Inclusion - advancing inclusion through cutting edge educational programs. Self Advocacy - teaching individuals that they have the ability to work toward a better future. Information and Referral Services - linking consumers and families with supports and services that can respond to their needs. From the President:I became involved with The Arc of Texas in 2002. My 26-year-old son with a developmental disability is my inspiration to mentor families that are just beginning on this long journey. This is my personal mission. Now, as the President of The Arc of Texas Board of Directors, I am asking you to help us secure the future of The Arc of Texas for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Please join me and Share the Vision of an improved world where all people are able to live enriched lives - lives where people with disabilities work and live along side others without disabilities. You know better than anyone how important our work is. Whether you are new to The Arc or have given in the past, please consider making a gift now for our programs and services.
